Take a Fresh Look at Chile
Wines of Chile
Award-winning writer and broadcaster Peter Richards will
challenge preconceptions and highlight the substantial and
remarkable progress Chile is making, with particular reference to
Syrah as a grape variety showing great promise,
and the development of Chardonnay, notably from
the cooler and coastal regions of Chile.
Peter Richards is no stranger to Chile having lived, worked and
travelled there over many years, and his book The Wines of Chile
(Mitchell Beazley Classic Wine Library) is the definitive and very
readable reference work on the Chilean wine trade and its modern
development. Although it only came to Chile in the mid-1990s,
Syrah is already expressing a true sense of terroir; Peter
will illustrate his talk with three diverse styles
of premium Syrah. Similarly, he will urge the audience to take a
fresh look at Chilean Chardonnay, with examples of
some of the most exciting new-wave styles the country has to
offer.
