Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - where next?
Pernod Ricard UK
It is now more than 30 years ago that Montana first pioneered
Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, which grew into a world-wide
phenomenon and is recognised as changing the fortunes of New
Zealand's wine industry.
To live by this pioneering value in the present, we launched the
Icon project two years ago to explore and understand what it would
take to further elevate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc to a level that
truly cements its iconic status.
We started working with Professor Denis Dubourdieu to conduct
viticultural and vinification trials, details of which we shared
for feedback, along with samples, in last year's 1st
Icon Tasting session (May 2009). In January 2010 Montana's
Chief Winemaker, Patrick Materman, hosted a roundtable session to
taste, examine and discuss the work we have completed to date
including a tasting from a selection of the key parcels from the
2009 vintage.
At this year's London International Wine Fair, Patrick will be
hosting a Montana Icon Sauvignon Blanc Masterclass, presenting an
overview of the project thus far with key samples from the 2009
vintage available for tasting.
